Yankees were in awe of Muhammad Ali

BALTIMORE — Major League baseball players are quite accustomed to being the most famous people in any room they happen to inhabit, but a few New York Yankees had the tables turned on them at the 2004 All-Star Game in Houston. In the pre-game clubhouse, Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia and Carlos Beltran found themselves face-to-face with a man whose star far eclipsed any of their own: Muhammad Ali.
“I met him a few times. Every time I was around him, it was a great thrill,” Rodriguez said. “There are stars and there are real iconic stars. He transcends sports.”
A-Rod said he could barely keep his hands from shaking the first time he met Ali.
