Donaldson day to day with jammed thumb

BOSTON — Third baseman Josh Donaldson was held out of the Blue Jays’ lineup on Saturday afternoon because of a jammed thumb on his right hand.
Donaldson has been dealing with the injury for the past couple of weeks, but he aggravated it during Friday night’s 5-2 victory over the Red Sox. He is listed as day to day.
“It’s been bothering him for a while,” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. “I don’t know exactly what happened, but it flared up. I think he just got jammed one time real bad. … It has been aggravating him, and hopefully it’s not too long.”
Prior to Saturday afternoon, Donaldson had appeared in all but one of Toronto’s 56 games this year. He played through a right calf injury earlier …
