Day, Spieth, McIlroy in contention at Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio — Jason Day was content with his score, despite an erratic swing. Jordan Spieth was happy with a torrid final stretch that advanced him well above the cut line. Rory McIlroy was pleased with a strong round that ran out of steam at the end.

The world’s top three golfers, each coming off a win in his last start, all took similar routes in the second round of the Memorial Tournament to reach the weekend and get within striking distance of the lead entering Moving Day.

Coming off an opening-round 66, Day posted a 1-under 71 that was fraught with wayward drives and approach shots throughout the round.
