Martin, Marte on track to return next week

ARLINGTON — Leonys Martin did some running at Globe Life Park prior to Friday’s series opener against his former Rangers team to test his strained left hamstring, but Mariners manager Scott Servais said the hyperactive center fielder had already put his injured leg through a rigorous workout while rooting on his teammates in Thursday’s 16-13 come-from-behind win over the Padres.
“He stood and jumped around the whole game last night,” Servais said. “He probably had to go in the cold tub after the game and ice everything down, including his tonsils.”
Servais and several Mariners players mentioned Martin’s animated support as one of the driving forces in the 10-run comeback.
“Leonys Martin was incredible, on the top step yelling the whole way,” said Kyle Seager. “He was pretty special.”
Servais had the injured center fielder come on the five-day road trip so he could work out with the club and continue providing his energy and Martin has embraced both roles.
“He was awesome,” Servais said before Friday’s game. …
