Freese, Cervelli, Mercer sit out after being hit by pitches

PITTSBURGH — The Pirates surrendered as many runs in Thursday’s loss to the Marlins as they gave up hitters to injury, and it showed on Friday.
The three players hit by pitches, catcher Francisco Cervelli, shortstop Jordy Mercer and infielder David Freese, were all out of the starting lineup for Pittsburgh on Friday against the Angels.
Cervelli sustained a bruised right foot, Freese took a 94-mph fastball to the hand and Mercer injured his left elbow. Pittsburgh released its lineup …
