Chasing Joe D: BTS elite vying for $5.6M

Imagine a world where baseball’s best batters hand-picked their opponents. Where hitters could work only in offense-friendly venues. Where the matchups always supported the man with the wood.

This is a real world, folks. It’s called Beat the Streak, MLB.com’s flagship fantasy game. Beat the streak, and you win $5.6 million.

BTS allows you to establish a virtual hitting streak by picking 1 to 2 hitters per day, with your streak continuing as long as your selections collect at least one hit apiece. To win the grand prize, simply beat Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hit streak by one. It’s free to play and takes only 15 seconds a day.

In its 15-plus years, BTS has yet to see someone win it all. But we are in the midst of unprecedented BTS greatness, with four active users at least 70 percent of the way to the windfall. One of them — Geordie, a 45-year-old known in BTS circles as “guyballgame” — has already dreamt of life with an extra $5.6 million.

And for a long time, “Club 40” was reserved for the game’s “1 percenters.”
