Eagles WR Nelson Agholor looking to make second-year jump

PHILADELPHIA — Nelson Agholor is in a tricky spot. The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2015 first-round draft pick is excited about the opportunity to play in a new offensive scheme after his disappointing rookie season.
Through three weeks of organized team activity practices and hours of meetings, Agholor believes he can thrive in coach Doug Pederson’s system.
“I look at last season and I say I did not take advantage of a great opportunity,” Agholor said Tuesday. “At the end of the day, that is what I must do this year. I’m still in position to take advantage of a great opportunity, and that’s what I’ve got to do.”
But here’s where it gets tricky. Pederson’s offense is derived from Andy Reid’s system. It has West Coast offense principles, although it has evolved since Reid was teaching it to the Eagles back in 1999. The offense asks receivers to read coverages and make adjustments based on what they see. In turn, the quarterback and receivers have to see the same thing and make the same mental adjustments.
“This offense does a great job in terms of getting guys into positions to execute different concepts, to execute versus different coverages,” Agholor said. “We’re not just calling stuff. We’re calling stuff that’s best for the coverage. You’re put in position to defeat coverage, whether it’s …
