Kirsty Coventry’s Message In A Comeback: Make Anti-Doping Truly Independent

The psyche sheet for the women’s events at the first round of the Mare Nostrum Tour in Monaco this weekend serves to remind us all of the unique profile that Katinka Hosszu, of Hungary, has built since now husband Shane Tusup took control of her career: she’s down to race just about everything and she’s top seed in seven of them.

Up against her in Monaco on sprint freestyle will be Aliaksandr Herasimenia*, the Belarus sprinter who headed to the US for a training spree of late when her national teammates from Belarus headed for the ADN Swim Project that she is locked out of courtesy of that program’s zero-tolerance on doping.

A message that reaches broadcast status when we turn to the backstroke events in Monaco. Hosszu faces challenge from Iceland’s Eyglo Gustafsdottir, Canada’s Taylor Ruck, Russian Anastasia Fesikova (nee Zueva), Olympic silver medallist in the 200m at London 2012, and a Zimbabwean whose career record knocks all others in Monaco into a cocked hat: Kirsty Coventry.
