Monty Williams Will Not Return to Thunder Next Season: Latest Comments, Reaction

Oklahoma City Thunder assistant Monty Williams will not return to the team for the 2016-17 season, coach Billy Donovan announced Wednesday. 

Erik Horne of the Oklahoman was among the pool of writers at Donovan’s exit interview to report the news. Williams, 44, left the team in February after his wife, Ingrid, died in a car accident. He did not return to the Thunder for the remainder of the regular season or their subsequent playoff run. 

Anthony Slater of the Oklahoman reported in April that Williams was expected to leave the franchise on a permanent basis.
