Polanco sits out with foot pain, sent to doctor

MIAMI — The Pirates scratched right fielder Gregory Polanco from Wednesday night’s lineup at Marlins Park due to left foot discomfort.
Polanco fouled a ball off his foot during his ninth-inning at-bat against Marlins closer A.J. Ramos on Tuesday night. The right fielder checked out fine after the game, head athletic trainer Todd Tomczyk said, but he woke up Wednesday morning with pain in his foot.
“You wait and see. It’s a fluid situation,” Tomczyk said. “He came in with some increased discomfort, so we’re making sure we take the necessary steps to ensure his short- and long-term health.”
Polanco didn’t undergo any X-rays on Tuesday night, Tomczyk said, but he was sent to a doctor for further evaluation on Wednesday afternoon.
Polanco has been the Pirates’ most productive hitter this season, batting .310/.386/.556 with eight home runs, while leading the team with 36 RBIs and 38 runs.
In Polanco’s place, the Pirates moved Sean Rodriguez from first base to right field and plugged in first baseman John Jaso against Marlins …
