Wijnaldum winner downs Poland

Poland suffered a setback in their Euro 2016 preparation with a 2-1 loss to Netherlands in Gdansk, thanks to goals from Vincent Janssen and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Janssen’s header had given the visitors the lead after 33 minutes before Artur Jedrzejczyk ensured Poland were back on level terms in the second half.

But a late strike from Newcastle midfielder Wijnaldum handed the Poles their first defeat in eight games.

Netherlands, who failed to qualify for this summer’s tournament for the first time since 1984, began the game on the back foot as Arkadiusz Milik blasted his effort on to the crossbar after seven minutes.
