Tigers place Saupold on DL, recall Parnell

ANAHEIM — The Tigers placed reliever Warwick Saupold on the 15-day disabled list after he suffered a right groin strain on a play at first base during Tuesday’s loss to the Angels.
Saupold, who became the second Australian to pitch for Detroit when he made his Major League debut on May 14, suffered the injury while trying to cover first base on a ground ball. He fell in pain as he reached behind him for Miguel Cabrera’s throw, and could barely maneuver the dugout steps as he walked back to the clubhouse.
