Each month, ESPN Stats & Information’s Home Run Tracker team takes a look at the most notable long-ball accomplishments in the major leagues.

Here’s our take on the best of May.

Longest home run of the month: Stanton

Giancarlo Stanton’s 490-foot home run off Hector Neris on May 6 was the longest home run hit this year. It was the second-longest home run of Stanton’s career (494 feet, August 2012).

Stanton has hit two home runs of at least 490 feet in his career, making him the only player to hit multiple home runs of that distance in the time ESPN has tracked home runs (beginning in 2009). The 490-foot home run is the third-longest home run since ESPN began tracking home runs.

Since entering the league in 2010, Stanton has hit 31 home runs of 450 feet. Justin Upton is second on that list with 16. The 31 such home runs are more than 26 teams have over that span.

Mazara a name to watch

Rangers rookie Nomar Mazara made a name for himself in May. Mazara hit two runs in the month that were calculated at 453 feet (May 25 and May 30), the longest of his career and longest by a Rangers player this season. He joins Stanton and Carlos Correa as the only players with multiple 450-foot home runs this season.
