Dodgers place Wood on DL, recall Urias

CHICAGO — The Dodgers announced on Tuesday that left-hander Alex Wood will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with swelling in his pitching elbow, and highly touted left-handed prospect Julio Urias will be recalled to take his spot.
Wood, pitching on eight days’ rest after being skipped once in the rotation, started Monday’s opener at Wrigley Field. He had a solid outing despite taking the loss, allowing two runs in five innings and working out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the second inning, but indicated after the game that he was still dealing with soreness in his arm.
“It was OK,” Wood said. “It was good enough to pitch. Everybody deals with stuff. It was one of those things that I was good enough to go, and that’s all that matters.”
Manager Dave Roberts indicated prior to the game that Wood’s next start was up in the air.
“I talked to him briefly, and he said he has some soreness,” Roberts said. “We’re just trying to see where he’s at. [In throwing 87 pitches on Monday], I thought he actually threw the ball well, but there was some soreness. So we’ll keep an eye on that.”
