Salvy tops AL in votes; Hosmer, Cain lead races

KANSAS CITY — Royals catcher Salvador Perez, the reigning World Series Most Valuable Player, is the leading vote-getter in the American League for the 2016 Major League Baseball All-Star Game presented by MasterCard.
Perez was the fan-elected starting catcher for the AL at the 2015 All-Star Game. He has received 1,094,942 votes for this year’s game.

Perez, recovering from a quad contusion, is batting .277. He leads AL catchers with 46 hits and 11 doubles, and he is tied for first with seven home runs and 25 RBIs. Perez has thrown out 12 of 24 runners attempting to steal.
First baseman Eric Hosmer leads the AL first baseman race with 871,222 votes. Hosmer is hitting .323 with 10 homers and 33 RBIs.
