Gomez activated from 15-day DL

PHOENIX — Saying he felt refreshed and ready following a week-long rehab stint at Double-A Corpus Christi, center fielder Carlos Gomez rejoined the Astros on Tuesday after being activated from the 15-day disabled list, where he landed with a bruised left rib cage.
Gomez was in the starting lineup against the D-backs in the final game between the clubs at Chase Field, and he figures to get more playing time in the next week to 10 days with Houston facing a steady diet of left-handed pitchers. But manager A.J. Hinch hinted Gomez will have to perform to stay the lineup.
“Playing time, in general, I want to be spread out a little more than it was at the beginning of the season,” he said. “Performance is going to dictate some of that. We face some left-handed pitchers, which is naturally going to get Jake [Marisnick] and Carlos in the lineup at the same time [over lefty Colby Rasmus], but there’s certainly a need to contribute.”
