Mackenzie McDonald writes College history by winning both singles and doubles NCAA titles!

Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa was the venue of 2016 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, and it was a double joy for UCLA Bruins squad. Junior Mackenzie McDonald has won the singles crown by beating top-ranked Mikael Torpegaard from Ohio State by 6-3 6-3 to become the 12th NCAA Singles Champions for UCLA, first one since Marcos Giron in 2014. Mackenzie was the 6th seed but he had a great tournament and the season overall, finishing 2016 with the 22-1 score! 21-year-old from Piedmont, California, played an amazing tennis to reach the semi-final, losing just 15 games in the first 4 matches, including victories over 13th and 2nd seeds. In the semi-final, he has lost the second set against Joao Monteiro but came out strong in third to reach the title match where he dominated against 1st seed Mikael Torpegaard. Denmark native was also rock-solid in 2016, finishing the regular season undefeated and clinching the awards for Big Ten Player of the Year as well as the ITA National Player to Watch. He is only the third Buckeye who played in the NCAA Singles Championship match.
