Astros to activate Gomez today

PHOENIX — Astros center fielder Carlos Gomez, who’s been on the disabled list since May 17 with a bruised left rib cage, will return to the starting lineup for today’s game against the D-backs. Third baseman Colin Moran has been optioned to Triple-A Fresno.
More than anything, Gomez was given a mental and physical break after a rough start to the season, when he was hitting .182 with no homers and five RBIs. He spent a few days rehabbing in Houston before going to Double-A Corpus Christi on a rehab assignment, during which he hit .250 with a homer in five games.
“He feels healthy, he feels better and we’re looking forward to getting him back,” said Astros manager A.J. Hinch, who has been in constant communication with Gomez.
Moran, who was called up when Gomez went on the DL, appeared in six games in his Major League debut and was 2-for-19, including 0-for-13 to start his career.
