Torn labrum lands Ackley on DL

TORONTO — Dustin Ackley was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday after being diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, according to Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who said that surgery will be considered.
Ackley, 28, injured the shoulder diving back into first base in the sixth inning of the Yankees’ 2-1 victory over the Rays on Sunday at Tropicana Field. An MRI performed in Tampa, Fla., revealed the tear; Ackley is scheduled to see team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad on Tuesday in New York.
“Surgery is a possibility,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “My thought is it will not be a quick DL stint.”
