Rory Mclllroy’s golfing success will be a major source of inspiration for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016, says Chris Baird.
Mcllroy has proudly flown his country’s flag at major tournaments, but this summer sees Northern Ireland feature at their first major football tournament for 30 years
The titles accrued by golfer McIlroy, currently No 3 in the world, and fellow major-winning compatriots Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke have provided Northern Ireland with plenty of sporting success in recent years.
Patriotic supporters had to toast glory on the links, though, as their football team had failed to reach a major international tournament since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. That was until Michael O’Neill’s team qualified for next month’s Euro 2016.
