Former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao made the move up to featherweight in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 88 against Jeremy Stephens on Sunday evening, but fell short, dropping a split decision loss.
What was the highlight of the fight?
This fight didn’t end with a brutal first-round knockout, as some predicted, but instead was a back-and-forth scrap that earned Fight of the Night honors. Barao looked very good early on, using his movement, speed and accuracy to land quite a number of shots. But in the second round, the former titleholder appeared to fade a little bit — or Stephens realized he had to turn it up — and Stephens began to take over, landing a fair share of his own shots.
