Each Sunday in this space we bring you some of our favorite quirks, oddities and unusual plays from the week in baseball. While we are always on the lookout for interesting and unusual stuff throughout each week, sometimes one day gives us a huge helping by itself. A Saturday to remember

Saturday began with Toronto’s back-and-forth walk-off win over the Red Sox. The game’s 16 extra-base hits tied for the most this season. Seven different Boston starters had one. That was the team’s most in a loss since Sept. 18, 1998 (11-9 at White Sox). Devon Travis beat out an infield single to win it, the first time the Blue Jays walked off on an infield hit in 12 years. Outfielder Simon Pond brought home Chris Gomez to beat the Angels on May 24, 2004.

The last time the Jays scored 10 runs in a walk-off win was nearly a year ago to the day when Josh Donaldson homered off David Robertson. Robertson had a part in Saturday’s escapades as well; he started the ninth inning in Kansas City with a six-run lead. He left without it. In a comeback for the ages — and a game that reminds us to never leave early — the Royals mustered six hits, four walks, and seven runs (six off Robertson) to beat those same White Sox, 8-7.
