Heckingbottom wants Barnsley stay

Paul Heckingbottom has said he wants to stay as Barnsley manager on a permanent basis after their play-off final victory.

The Tykes beat Millwall 3-1 at Wembley to secure their place back in the second tier, with goals from Ashley Fletcher, Adam Hammill and Lloyd Isgrove sealing the victory.

The Lions replied through childhood Barnsley fan Mark Beevers, but Heckingbottom’s men were able to see out the game to round off a stunning turnaround this season.

As Barnsley now prepare for life back in the Championship, attention will also turn to the future of Heckingbotham, the former Tyke who has only been in caretaker charge since Lee Johnson departed for Bristol City in February.
