ITA Collegiate Tennis Women’s Team Rankings – May 25 2016: Stanford grabs the year-end number 1 spot

Stanford Cardinal went to NCAA Division I Women’s Championship ranked 15th, but that wasn’t as obstacle en route to their 18th NCAA title. In the final match, Oklahoma State has led 3-1 but the Cardinal made a great comeback to win the final 3 points and lift the biggest national title. With those points earned, Stanford has moved from 15th place straight into the lead on the final rankings list in 2016, ousting Florida from the leading spot (they stuns Florida in the 3rd round also after a thriller 4-3 victory). Stanford was ranked 11th at the end of the last season but they’ve accomplished 20-5 score in 2016 and in the end it was just enough to finish ahead of California in the season’s final rankings. California Golden Bears were also mighty impressive in 2016, wrapping it with a 23-2 score. In February, the Golden Bears has won their first ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship and they stayed undefeated all the way until mid-April when Stanford toppled them 4-3. Oklahoma State stopped them in the semi-final of the NCAA Championship but this was still a great season for the Golden Bears squad.
