Real Madrid 4-3 Stade de Reims, 1956

The inaugural European Cup final took place in Paris on June 13 1956, with Stade de Reims aiming to secure France a maiden triumph. They raced into a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes but Real came from behind to win thanks to goals from Alfredo Di Stefano and Marquitos, as well as two from Hector Rial, to herald a period of domination on the continent.

Real Madrid 2-0 Fiorentina, 1957

Real saw off Manchester United’s Busby Babes in the 1957 semi-final and defended their title on home soil. Their Italian opponents, Fiorentina, held out until the 69th minute when Di Stefano scored a controversial penalty and Francisco Gento added a second to ensure the trophy stayed in Madrid.

Real Madrid 3-2 AC Milan, 1958

Di Stefano was on the scoresheet once more as Real won a third title in a row. Juan Alberto Schiaffino had opened the scoring for AC Milan and Ernesto Grillo put them 2-1 up after Di Stefano’s equaliser. But Rial hit back once more for Real before Gento grabbed the victory in extra-time.
