Novak Djokovic’s search for a maiden French Open title continued Saturday after the men’s singles’ No. 1 seed defeated Aljaz Bedene 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 to claim his spot in the fourth round of the 2016 competition.

Rain delays interrupted Saturday’s proceedings, but women’s top seed Serena Williams retained enough momentum to see off French contender Kristina Mladenovic 6-4, 7-6(10) and move into the next round.

David Ferrer also joined Djokovic in the last 16 after defeating Feliciano Lopez 6-4, 7-6(6), 6-1, while Ernests Gulbis advanced after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was forced to retire in the first set due to injury.

No. 18 Elina Svitolina will face Williams in the next round after she staged a small shock by beating Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-4, and Carla Suarez-Navarro’s 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win over Dominika Cibulkova granted her a spot in the next phase.
