Morris to visit physician, mulling surgery

ATLANTA — Marlins reliever Bryan Morris will have a better idea if he needs surgery or not after consulting with a team physician on Tuesday. The right-hander, on the disabled list since Thursday with a lumbar disc herniation, is prepared to do what is best for his long-term future.
Morris said on Saturday that he has been dealing with the back issue for a couple of seasons. He could have continued throwing this year, but Morris realized he was reaching the point where he wasn’t helping himself or the team.
Morris has had four MRIs since before the 2014 season, and until now, has been able to manage the discomfort.
“We found out with this MRI that I got a little more than just those two discs that are herniated,” Morris said. “The winter of ’14 is when I got my first MRI, and I realized that it was messed up.”
