That is the double Olympic, world and European champion’s third-fastest ever 10,000m behind his 2011 and 2015 Pre Classic winning times, with his 26:46.57 British record having been set at this event five years ago.
The 5km point had been passed in around 13:23, with Farah to the fore. The top five all went sub-27:00, with Farah followed by Kenya’s William Malel Sitonik with a 26:54.66 PB, Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola with a 26:57.33 PB, Kenya’s Stephen Sambu with 26:58.25 and Ethiopia’s 2011 world champion Ibrahim Jeilan with a 26:58.75 PB.
Ethiopia’s half-marathon world record-holder Zersenay Tadese ran 27:00.66 for sixth.
