Royals covet Eibner’s power as rookie arrives

KANSAS CITY — Thursday was simply a whirlwind for Royals rookie Brett Eibner.

Eibner, 27, was called up from Triple-A Omaha, and immediately placed in the starting lineup as the designated hitter. He arranged for seven tickets for family members, including his mom and dad, who hurried to the ballpark.

“I was pretty jacked,” said Eibner, the Royals’ No. 23 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com. “You wait so long and then you get your chance to make your debut.”

And then the rains came. And came. And about an hour before the first pitch was scheduled at Kauffman Stadium, the game against the White Sox was postponed.

Total letdown.

But the silver lining is that Friday night was much more relaxed for Eibner. He got to the ballpark hours before first pitch, took batting practice indoors, worked out and even took some outfield practice, trying to learn the tricky caroms in the corners of The K.
