Gavira & Herrera duplicating Moscow path to gold

Moscow, Russia, May 27, 2016 – When Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera captured their first-ever FIVB World Tour gold medal at the 2015 Moscow Grand Slam, the Spaniards dropped their first match of the competition before reeling off six-straight wins at the Vodny Stadium Beach Sports Centre to top the podium in the Russian capital.
A year later, Gavira and Herrera are following the same script as the pair won two elimination matches here Friday to advance to the quarter-finals of this week’s Moscow Grand Slam where the 12th-seeded Spaniards will challenge second-seeding Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson of the United States in an opening men’s match Saturday.
The two teams will be meeting for the first-time on the 2015-2016 FIVB World Tour calendar as the Americans hold a 3-2 edge in the international series with the last meeting being this past September in the United States where Gibb and Patterson posted a 2-1 (19-21, 21-16, 18-16) win in 62 minutes at the SWATCH FIVB World Tour Finals in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
