The Sri Lankans won’t be ditching their thermals just yet, but the opening day of the second Test at least dawned dry. Alastair Cook won the toss and, despite a temptation to target Sri Lanka’s brittle batting line-up straightaway, decided to bat on what he thought was a good wicket although conceded the overhead conditions could make it tricky.
