Republic v Netherlands preview

Republic of Ireland face the Netherlands at the Aviva Stadium on Friday night in their penultimate warm-up game before Euro 2016.
Apart from key man James McCarthy, Martin O’Neill has a healthy complement to choose from, but a 35-man party must be cut to 23 after Tuesday night’s final warm-up friendly with Belarus and competition is rife.
O’Neill has admitted competition is fiercest in midfield and the likes of Stephen Quinn, Harry Arter, Darron Gibson and Eunan O’Kane will all be eager to stake a claim against the Dutch, who failed to qualify for this summer’s tournament.
The Republic host Belarus in Cork on Tuesday ahead of their Group E opener against Sweden in Paris on June 13 and while O’Neill will use the games to finalise his selection, he hopes the encounters will also serve his side well psychologically.
“There are one or two places still at this minute that are undecided,” O’Neill said.
