Jose Mourinho has been appointed as Manchester United’s new manager and attentions are already turning to the mouth-watering Premier League season ahead.

The former Chelsea boss is charged with transforming United’s fortunes after three disappointing seasons under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, but his mission will not be simple in a fiercely competitive Premier League.

Mourinho will renew his old rivalry with Pep Guardiola across Manchester, and he will also come up against Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Claudio Ranieri at Leicester. Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino will also hope to challenge at the top of the table, and Mourinho will face his Chelsea predecessor Antonio Conte, too.

Mourinho’s bitter rivalry with Guardiola stretches back to his days at Inter Milan, where he famously triumphed over Guardiola’s Barcelona in the 2010 Champions League semi-final.

The following season saw Mourinho chalk up another victory over Guardiola in the Copa del Rey final with Real Madrid, but there was also a galling 5-0 La Liga defeat at the Nou Camp.
