Teixeira has MRI to find root of neck pain

NEW YORK — There might be an explanation for Mark Teixeira’s slump, after all.
Teixeira, who entered Wednesday hitting just .164 with two RBIs and no home runs in May, was left out of the Yankees’ starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Blue Jays after aggravating a neck injury that sidelined him for a couple of games earlier this month. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said before Wednesday’s game that he hadn’t heard about the injury until Wednesday afternoon, and he was initially planning to start Teixeira.
The veteran first baseman underwent an MRI exam, according to Girardi, and was scheduled to meet with the team doctor to determine the extent of the injury. Girardi allowed that Teixeira’s uncertain status has …
