Colts have 33 million reasons to be getting antsy with Art Jones

INDIANAPOLIS – Art Jones is a forgotten player on the Indianapolis Colts. That’s understandable when you look at what the defensive lineman has done — or rather, not done — since signing a five-year, $33 million contract in 2014.
That’s what happens when you’ve played only nine games in two seasons because of two different ankle injuries.

“It’s definitely tested me,” Jones said. “It definitely has, but I have a great support system: Robert Mathis, Trent Cole, some of the veterans, guys who have been through it before. Those guys have been awesome. I’m sticking to the plan, my blinders are on, I’m working hard and I can’t wait to go.”
Jones was supposed to be the anchor of the Colts’ defensive line when he reunited with coach Chuck Pagano, his defensive coordinator in Baltimore, more than two years ago. But a high-ankle injury in Week 2 of the 2014 season started the snowball of problems. Jones thought he had shook off the injuries, only to suffer a broken ankle that ended his 2015 season before it began, in the third game of the preseason.
