Park Tae-hwan Misses Crunch Meeting With KOC & Seeks Rescheduled Negotiation

Park Tae-hwan today postponed a meeting with the national Olympic body over his appeal to race at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after returning from an international suspension but being blocked by a domestic rule on national-team representation.

An official with the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) told Yonyap, the Korean news agency, that Park’s camp asked to put off the meeting “indefinitely”. The official have no explanation nor pass on the thinking behind the 2008 Olympic 400m freestyle champion’s decision.

Park’s team informed the KOC that it would “get back” in touch to seek a new date for a meeting. They had been scheduled to meet KOC’s Secretary-General Cho Young-ho at 10 a.m today but at the last minute a request for the meeting to be moved to 2pm arrived at the KOC offices. After noon, the message came through that Park and team would not be coming after all, Yonyap reports.
