Gregory Polanco now a major force for Pittsburgh Pirates

Gregory Polanco has made the Pittsburgh Pirates look smart for committing $35 million to him over the next five seasons.
Polanco seems to have matured into a high-end powerful bat. That growth continued with three hits, a home run and a career-high five RBIs against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, as the Pirates pounced on struggling starter Shelby Miller.
Polanco entered the day ranked ninth in the majors in hard-hit rate and lived up to that with his first-inning home run. Miller threw him a pitch in his hot zone—just above the knees on the inner-half of the plate that Polanco parked into right center.
Polanco has six home runs this season. He hit seven and nine in each of his first two seasons, posting sub-.400 slugging percentages in each. He’s slugging 546 in …
