The regular season is nearing the halfway mark and here’s a look at how Sprint Cup Series teams rank heading into Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.
Joe Gibbs Racing One year ago, the NASCAR world was talking about the ills of not just JGR but Toyota as a whole. Then came the All-Star Race and Coca-Cola 600 – won by Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards, respectively … and things have not slowed down since. Joe Gibbs has all four of his drivers already qualified for the Chase. Kyle Busch leads the series with three wins and there doesn’t appear to be anything to slow down the JGR juggernaut.
Hendrick Motorsports They’re not the big dog, right now, and quite frankly are barely holding on to the No. 2 ranking. Jimmie Johnson is still the gold standard and has two wins but after that, there’s upheaval inside the organization. Rookie Chase Elliott has risen to the second spot within the team as Dale Earnhardt Jr. looks for answers and Kasey Kahne continues to struggle.
Team Penske Brad Keselowski has led the charge for “The Captain’s” group this year with a pair of trips to Victory Lane. Joey Logano is still winless although his All-Star victory might provide a shot in the arm. Logano hasn’t yet put together a complete race for a win in a points-paying event.
