Marlins hope Yelich returns later this week

MIAMI — The Marlins remain confident Christian Yelich will be back in the lineup soon, but a start could be at least a couple days away.
The 24-year-old left fielder is dealing with back spasms. The discomfort is more in the middle of his back and not his lower back, which is what landed him on the disabled list in 2014 and 2015.
“He feels better than he did yesterday,” manager Don Mattingly said. “I don’t think he’s going to swing today. But as of right now, he’s feeling better.”
With Yelich out, Ichiro Suzuki got the start on Monday in left field for the third straight game. Yelich tweaked his back while swinging in the batting cage before Saturday’s game against the Nationals.
There is a chance Yelich could be available in a pinch-hitting capacity perhaps as early as Tuesday. The plan is for him to go to Tampa Bay for the two games on Wednesday …
