Rain destroyed Sunday’s Day 1 schedule at Roland Garros, as the French Open was washed out in Paris.
Many matches were forced to be delayed until Monday, but several encounters were completed before the heavens opened.
There were wins for men’s seeds Nick Kyrgios and Benoit Paire as they defeated Marco Cecchinato and Radu Albot, respectively.
No. 10 women’s seed Petra Kvitova also prevailed in the wet conditions, beating Danka Kovinic 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in a tough battle of wills.

The schedule for Day 1 was obliterated in Paris as the rain refused to stop to allow a prolonged period of play in the afternoon.
However, a number of matches beat the weather as a host of contests were postponed until Monday, putting huge pressure on the organisers.
Kyrgios showed his fiery temper once more but the Australian found safe passage into the next round. He defeated Cecchinato 7-6(6), 7-6(6), 6-4 on a bleak day in the French capital.
