Nigeria’s Flying Eagles began the journey towards a successful defence of their U-20 AFCON title with a lone goal victory over Burundi away in Bujumbura on Saturday.
Agor Chukwudi’s 60th minute strike gave the Eagles the edge in the Second Round first leg meeting ahead of the return encounter in three weeks as the race for the 20th edition in Zambia next year gathers momentum.
There were also away victories for Senegal and Mali, finalists and semi-finalists at the last edition in 2015, with Guinea also in the fray.
Ibrahima Niane, who plays for Senegalese second-tier side, Generation Foot, scored in both halves as ‘Les Lionceaux’ stunned host Tunisia in Oued Ellil. Raed Fadaa scored in between for the Tunisians.
