Tigers’ rookie pitcher Michael Fulmer K’s 11, makes case to remain in rotation

DETROIT — Through the first quarter of the season, the standing ovations at Comerica Park have been reserved exclusively for a certain pair of veteran pitchers — Justin Verlander and Jordan Zimmermann — but the crowd was on its feet Saturday afternoon, this time in appreciation for 23-year-old rookie Michael Fulmer.
Fulmer, the top-ranked prospect of the Detroit Tigers who was recalled in wake of a finger injury to Shane Greene last month, was sensational in his fifth MLB start, allowing just one run on four hits in a brilliant seven-inning performance during the Tigers’ 5-4- win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
