Cubs confident Heyward won’t be out long

SAN FRANCISCO — An MRI performed on Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward revealed a contusion on the right side of his rib cage. He’s expected to miss three to five days and will not be put on the disabled list.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon said team athletic trainer P.J. Mainville felt sure Heyward would not miss more than that.
“It’s encouraging,” Maddon said before the Cubs took on the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. “When I went out there, I saw him crunched against the wall, laying on the ground. I was not too optimistic. When he stood up, that told us a lot.”
