Liverpool have done all they can to persuade Mario Gotze to leave Bayern Munich for Anfield, but the playmaker’s future remains undecided, per Goal correspondent Melissa Reddy.
The Germany international has been forced to settle for a backup role at the Allianz Arena this season in Pep Guardiola’s final campaign as head coach, with the 23-year-old making just 11 Bundesliga starts, per WhoScored.com.
Gotze—who scored the winning goal late on in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina—signed for Bayern from boyhood club Borussia Dortmund in 2013 for a German-record €37 million after the Bavarians matched his contract release clause.
The attacking midfielder has wonderful balance and touch, and he is equally adept at rounding defenders or creating chances with assists. He is calm in possession and is a master of judging time and space even when surrounded by opponents. Additionally, Gotze is composed inside the area, enabling him to net 29 times in the league during the three seasons before his limited match action this year, per Soccerway.
