A’s eye reinforcements in Phegley, Lowrie

OAKLAND — A’s catcher Josh Phegley, nursing a strained right knee, is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.
Phegley flew to Nashville on Friday and was expected to be in the Sounds’ lineup at designated hitter on Saturday, before catching seven innings for them Sunday. The plan is for him to DH again Monday and catch each of the ensuing two days, according to team trainer Nick Paparesta.
That means Phegley will likely rejoin the A’s for the start of their next homestand on May 27, barring any setbacks.
Jed Lowrie could also be in Nashville’s lineup on Monday for a scheduled one-game rehab stint. The second baseman, on the disabled list with a right shin contusion, was set to …
