Alex Rodriguez unlikely to return to Yankees until next week

OAKLAND, Calif. — Alex Rodriguez ran the bases on Friday night. He practiced going from first to third and from third to home. He practiced going halfway on a fly ball to the outfield, and he practiced taking the wide turn at first after getting a hit. According to New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi, “He ran pretty good today.”

But the likelihood is that the Yankees will not have their 40-year-old designated hitter back in the lineup before the team returns home to play the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.
