Morning Report: Matt Brown calls Tyron Woodley a ‘b*tch’ says he’d ‘fight him in the f**king street for free’

It has been an eventful week for the immortal one.

Last Saturday Matt Brown fought Demian Maia at UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil. Before the fight even began he was hit several times by Brazilian fans on his way to the octagon. Then in the actual fight, Maia dominated Brown en route to a third round stoppage via rear-naked choke. And Brown still had one more hit to the head to endure the next day when a former coach of his sucker punched him in a hotel lobby.

In the aftermath Brown has been doing interviews discussing the altercation, his bout with Maia, and what’s next for him. In an interview with Jonathan Shrager of MMA Underground, the conversation turned towards who Brown would like to fight in the future. Brown mentioned eventually trying to avenge some of his previous losses but there was a different person that stood out.

“[Tyron] Woodley, he’s a bitch. I just don’t like him anyway. I’d fight him in the f**king street for free.”

Brown and Woodley have been in the news lately with the UFC announcing that Woodley would – somewhat surprisingly -be the next challenger for Robbie Lawler’s welterweight championship. In response to this news, Brown remarked that Woodley is completely undeserving of a title shot. Brown didn’t elaborate on those comments in this interview but he did delve into his dislike of the soon to be welterweight title challenger.

“You go all the way back, he turned down fights. I know he turned down Hector Lombard saying, ‘he’s a teammate’ and then Hector’s like, ‘we’re not teammates, f*ck you, I’ll fight you.’ So that’s a clear bitch move.

“And then sitting out for a year and a half begging for a title shot, coming over a win over – what’s Gastelum? Probably fourteen or fifteen [in the rankings] – a very unimpressive win over a sick Gastellum. He had the flu, right. Missed weight by ten pounds.”

Woodley’s last fight was a split-decision victory of Kelvin Gastelum in January 2015 in a bout where Gastellum came in dramatically overweight. Woodley was then scheduled to face Johny Hendricks in a title eliminator fight in October but Hendricks was forced to withdraw from the bout – also due to a bad weight cut – and in the aftermath Dana White decreed that Woodley would get a title shot. By the time Woodley steps into the cage against Lawler, it will have been eighteen months since last he fought. In the interim, Carlos Condit lost a very controversial split decision to Lawler in what will almost certainly be the Fight of the Year, Demian Maia and Neil Magny have put together impressive win streaks, and Stephen Thompson knocked out former welterweight champion Johnny Hendricks in the first round.

But while Brown is unenthusiastic about Woodley’s title shot, that isn’t the genesis of his ire for the man. Much of it stems from clashing personality and the fact that Woodley hangs his hat on a TKO victory over Condit by way of injury, when Condit tore his ACL during a takedown.

“I’ll tell you what originally kind of got me disliking Woodley is how he claims that he won over Carlos Condit. That’s just simply not a win. You cannot claim that a win. Yeah you won the first round but you won the fight by default. Condit got hurt. Condit’s not a one round fighter. You don’t see Condit win too many fights in the first round. He gets stronger as the fight goes on and he was just starting to pick it up on Woodley and Woodley is a one round fighter.

“Then he’s always on Twitter just talking and he told me to keep my name out of his mouth when he’s the one talking to me. He’s just not the personality that I like. He’s not a warrior, he’s not a soldier. If we were on the battlefields in the 1200’s, in the Medieval, the Dark Ages, this motherf*cker would be back hiding in the bushes while guys like me, I’d be on the fucking front lines with a sword in my hand.
