Jurgen Klopp Reportedly Sung to Liverpool Squad After Europa League Final Loss
- Updated: May 20, 2016
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp took a unique approach to comforting his players in the wake of their UEFA Europa League final defeat to Sevilla on Wednesday night as he reportedly gave the squad an impassioned speech before leading them in a “sing-along.”
According to the Daily Mail’s Dominic King, the affable German gathered his players and staff at the team hotel and said: “Two hours ago you all felt s–t. Now hopefully you all feel better. This is just the start for us. We will play in many more finals.”
Klopp then proceeded to sing the terrace chant “We are Liverpool, tra-la-la-la!” and “made the room join in,” with the Mirror’s David Maddock also reporting on the sing-along.
The Reds deservedly led the final 1-0 at half-time, but they were thoroughly outplayed by the resurgent Sevilla in the second half as Kevin Gameiro netted seconds after the restart and Coke scored a brace.
Liverpool were perhaps unfortunate not to receive at least one penalty amid several handball incidents, and Klopp believes that proved costly, per Sky Sports News HQ:
