De La Rosa, Motte nearing returns after rehab outings

ST. LOUIS — Rockies veteran lefty Jorge De La Rosa was a bright spot on a rough Thursday night for pitching.
In his third injury rehab start at Triple-A Albuquerque, De La Rosa spread 94 pitches over seven innings against New Orleans to satisfy the length requirement the Rockies want to see before considering activating him. De La Rosa is out with a left groin strain, but the rehab assignment is more of an opportunity to work through the inefficiency that led to a 1-3 record and 10.18 ERA performance in five starts.
De La Rosa gave up four runs — three in the third inning before finding a groove that saw him retire 10 straight — on six hits, with three strikeouts, two walks and a hit batsman. De La Rosa also forced nine groundouts.
