St. Louis Cardinals’ new lineup hums into action

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals might have hit on a nice little lineup grouping, one they can finally ride for a while.
For weeks, manager Mike Matheny deflected questions about when he would move his most productive hitter, Aledmys Diaz, from the bottom of the lineup, saying, in various ways, “If it’s working, why change it?” On Thursday, Matheny decided it was time, sliding the rookie Diaz into the No. 2 spot and inserting Stephen Piscotty at the cleanup position.
“We like to get our best hitters up their quick,” Matheny explained.
